About the Nexus Project
The Nexus Project is a website for reading, speaking, learning and sharing. It is an online space for young refugees and migrants to use and enjoy. Nexus is here thanks to the New South Wales Adult Migrant English Service.
On the Nexus site you will find:
- short articles to read
- sound recordings to listen to as you read
- short films to watch
- a glossary to help readers learn the words and phrases used on the site
- an online forum for people to talk about things
- some links to other sites that are useful for young refugees and migrants in Australia
Nexus project is here to help young people read, listen to and learn English. How you use Nexus is up to you. You may prefer to read the articles, or maybe watching the films is more helpful.
The Nexus Blog will be regularly updated with short articles on many different topics. The articles will help readers learn about many aspects of life in Australia. You’ll be able to listen to each article and read along by clicking on the sound file at the end of each article.
Many of the articles have words linked to the glossary. Difficult words are explained in the glossary. You will be able to listen to these examples as well. Words in the glossary can be seen by clicking on them.
The forum can be used to discuss things you read on the site or just to have a chat. To use the forum you must register an account and log in using your own name and password. You may want to use the forum to talk about things you have read or watched on the Nexus site, or you may want to start your own discussion about something else – that’s OK! But remember you can only use the forum if you have registered and logged in.
The links page has links to other websites that may be helpful to you. It includes links to sites about women’s issues, refugee support, health, housing and legal advice.
English teachers may want to use Nexus as a resource to assist their classes. Read the teachers’ guide for more information.
You can contact Nexus by emailing us here - info@nexusproject.net.au - feel free to let us know what you think about the site and how we can improve it. Thanks!
