Josie Styles
Josie Styles has been involved in hip-hop since the late 1990s. She began DJing casually in the mid-90s for friends and at parties. As Josie says, DJing is “such a boys’ club”, so it took her a few years to get the courage to play live. But since starting she hasn’t looked back.
Josie has also been active behind the scenes. She makes compilation CDs, and promotes, publicises and generally helps out everyone in hip-hop. In her other life, she works as a terrestrial ecologist for the Australian Museum, where she is in charge of an endangered Bell Frog population.
