Mr Zux is from Bongo Town, Tanzania. He came to Australia to study at the University of New South Wales in the 1990s. When he was a child he lived in the USA for a few years. During this time Zux listened to many records from the 1970s, which helped him learn English. In the 1990s he realised famous groups like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest used samples from the same records he heard from the 70s, except in a hip-hop style.

This is one reason Zux became interested in production, which is one of his main skills. He is very generous in sharing his music, skills and knowledge with students of hip-hop and music. He loves music and he never charges anyone for his time. He remembers how hard it was when he was new in the scene, and the favours he received.

Zux also raps and is known by many as “The African Spear” because what he says is so sharp. Since 2002 and 2003 the number of African migrants and refugees coming to Australia has increased, so he has found a large audience for rapping in his native language of Swahili.
