Munkimuk
Munkimuk is often called the grandfather of Aboriginal hip-hop. He was a founding member of the hip-hop group South West Syndicate. This group had members from many different Sydney suburbs and from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. They began performing in 1992 and played their last show in 2003.
Munkimuk is also a pioneer of community workshops and has been across the country many times. He uses hip-hop as a positive creative tool. Munki spreads energy and humour wherever he goes, and he uses hip-hop as a tool for education that kids enjoy. This resulted in him being employed by the education department.
In terms of hip-hop Munki does it all. He produces, raps and breakdances. He can also rap in Jardwadjali which is the native language of his grandmother.
